UI Improvements coming to Teams Phone
UI Improvements coming to Teams Phone
Enterprise Connect 2024 also announced some Teams Phone device UI improvements! These are quality of life improvements that I believe will greatly increase the useability of Teams Phone on devices.
A quick overview of these upcoming UI improvements are:
- New call handling capabilities – Call Forwarding from home screen, send incoming calls to voicemail, call of behalf of queue, quicker call transfers
- Simpler multi-call handling - configure how incoming calls will be routed when on an ongoing call or meeting
- Advanced contact management – add external number contacts for quick dialling

These features have been mentioned they will be made available next quarter 2024. However, we already have seen some of these features show up on the roadmap which is great to see!
- Redirect incoming call direct to voicemail – Roadmap 169887
- Enabling call forwarding directly from phone device home screen – Roadmap 388490
Having the ability to forward calls directly from the home screen on a Teams Phone device is a great quality of life improvements.
I’ve spoken with multiple customers in Teams Phone deployments where receptionists forward calls to voicemail, to another user, mobile number when they are not at their desk for example going for lunch, and before this would be a multi-step process and, in some cases, would cause the end user to not even complete this because they would forget or not be bothered enough to apply the forward.
However, with it being a couple clicks away on the home screen of a phone this will seriously increase the user experience and usability of this feature.
Its really good to see the constant improvement of the UI of Microsoft Teams Phone for devices. Customers still use handsets and I believe there will always be that group of uses that will require a physical handset and not move to a softphone so should they really get a lesser experience? I don’t think so!
Comment below if you find that customer are still asking for handsets and which of the new UI improvements you’re most excited to see and talk to customers about!
