##SMS Coming to Microsoft Teams Phone.

Does anyone even use SMS anymore? SMS is expected to be available for tenants by the end of February 2025 according to the Message Center alert.

This feature will allow users to send and receive SMS messages natively in their Teams client. Importantly, this is via Windows Desktop, Teams for Mac Desktop, and Teams for iOS and Android. This is great because we are seeing features released across many ways people use Teams at the same time.

This feature currently has the following requirements:

  • Calling Plans
  • United States and Canada

This feature will be manageable via the Teams Admin Center by the end of the rollout of this feature also.

Although I think this is a valuable addition for US & Canada based customers are we still seeing a demand for SMS based communication? For someone in the UK with an iPhone and WhatsApp I can’t remember the last time I sent an SMS to someone and especially not for business purposes.

It would be interesting if this feature will creep into other locations and even the possibility for Operator Connect providers to offer this if possible as this would be a good differentiator between providers.
